about
New York's leading Fondue Western™️ baritone and Switzerland's "King of Tears" Sam Himself shares Never Let Me Go, his latest collaboration with producer Daniel Schlett (Iggy Pop, The War On Drugs) and mastering engineer Greg Calbi (Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie).
The single kicks off a new era for Sam Himself, aka Swiss-born, Brooklyn-based songwriter and performer Sam Koechlin. Emerging from the bleak solitude of the pandemic years, the two-time Swiss Music Award nominee risks another shot at hope, inspired by new beginnings and the opportunity to finally share the studio with other musicians again - namely drummer Chris Egan (Blood Orange; !!!) and bass player Josh Werner (Ghostface Killah; Lee "Scratch" Perry).
Two years ago, the onset of the pandemic caught the artist in limbo, stuck on a canceled European tour and unable to return to New York City, his chosen home of the past decade. In 2021, still stranded, Sam Himself nonetheless released his debut album, Power Ballads, a largely home-recorded yet “well-crafted set of atmospheric post-punk” (KEXP), to international acclaim.
His EP Slow Drugs, featuring vocalists Denitia and TEEN, as well as drummer Parker Kindred (Jeff Buckley; Elliott Smith) under the direction of Sam Himself's 'Second Beatle' Daniel Schlett, had previously earned the National Broadcasting Network's prestigious 'Best Talent Award.'
As featured by SPIN, KEXP, KCRW, Under The Radar, The Wild Honey Pie Buzzsession and many more.

Sam Himself - Never Let Me Go (lyrics)
Here’s the key to my ribcage
Keep it safe while I’m away
I’ll try to keep my bed close to the phone
Just in case the line goes dead
Ignites those sirens inside our heads
On nights we might forget we’re not alone
Paint my sleeves with your blade
My knees with your floor
When the weight pulls you deep
When the blood needs bleeding my love
I’ll play dead till you wake up
Hold your breath until I drop
I’ll go blind before I blink
Break my heart until it stops
But don’t go, don’t go
Hey don’t go, don’t go
Home’s a strange and distant place
Where bones the wind can’t blow away
Pile up to a giant empty sky
Lone shadows in the shade we met
Won’t allow the sun to set
On the day we learned to say goodbye
Leave my flowers out to freeze
If my fever leaves you cold
Lock me out, tell me to beat it
Never let me go
Paint my sleeves with your blade
My knees with your floor
When the weight pulls you deep
When the blood needs bleeding my love
I’ll play dead till you wake up
Hold my breath until I drop
I’ll go blind looking at you
Break a heart until it stops
I’ll play dead till you wake up
Hold your breath until I drop
I’ll go blind before I blink
Break my heart until it stops
But don’t go, don’t go
Hey don’t go, don’t go
Please
